Microsoft president commits $5M to campaign to restore UW’s historic ‘Boys in the Boat’ Shell House

A marketing campaign to restore the 104-year-aged ASUW Shell Property at the College of Washington in Seattle is finding a strengthen towards its goal with a $5 million determination from Microsoft President Brad Smith and his wife, Kathy Surace-Smith, vice president at NanoString.

Microsoft Philanthropies has focused an further $2 million toward the university’s $18.5 million money marketing campaign.

Smith earlier helped lead fundraising initiatives for The Invoice & Melinda Gates Center for Laptop Science & Engineering at the UW, which opened in 2019. That marketing campaign attracted contributions from notable tech titans and other latest and previous Seattle-place tech leaders.
